The Practice:Stonecot surgery is a patient and doctor friendly group practice with four full-time partners, a GP retainer, an assistant, a nurse practitioner and registrar(s). Our list size is 8900; all of who live close to the surgery. We pride ourselves on a quality, needs-led service encompassing modern medical thinking and efficient administration. We work very well as a cohesive team of like-minded practitioners and have excellent working relationships with our staff and primary care health team members. We are well respected clinically in the local community. We have regular practice meetings, both formal and informal and have morning coffee and lunch together most days. Primary health care team meetings take place in the practice. We are a paperless practice, using Emis clinical system in a unified and efficient way. We follow agreed protocols and procedures where possible. Particular care is taken with training all computer users to a high standard. We have a full complement of clinical and administrative staff as well as dedicated attached community staff. Further practice details of our practice profile can be found on our patient’s website at: stonecotsurgery.co.uk
Stonecot surgery has a long history of training of both registrars and medical students. We all very much enjoy training and having registrars in the practice.
We tailor the training to the needs of the registrar and are always as flexible as possible. We aim to engender sufficient competence and confidence in our registrars to enable autonomous practice as a GP by the end of the registrar year. As part of this ethos we give help and guidance in relevant examinations. All of the partners are keen to teach and discuss clinical issues and be involved in making the training year fruitful and enjoyable. Regular tutorials are once a week for an hour and a half. We believe it is important to help the registrar feel part of our team for their time with us. After the variable induction and introductory period, registrars in the practice share in duty days, surgeries, visits and on call commitments as required by the deanery. Healthcall covers our night visits. We give generous study-leave allocation in keeping with our belief that the year is a training year.
Registrars interested in joining us may wish to contact our current registrar, or any of the trainers.
