Practice Profile:The Elborough Street SurgeryThe PracticeWe are a small friendly practice with 5800 patients. The practice is composed of two Edwardian houses knocked together and refurbished with a relaxing garden lovingly tended by our green fingered practice manager. We are located in the heart of the Southfields Grid between Southfields and Wimbledon Park Tube stations. The area has a village like family friendly atmosphere. We have above average numbers of children under five. We have a team of 3 GP partners, 2 GP assistants, a practice manager, 2 practice nurses, one who is training to become a nurse practitioner, and 6 reception staff. We also have a Health visitor, Psychologist and Dietician who regularly visit the practice. We run a well woman clinic on Monday evening, a Baby clinic on Wednesday afternoons and a Diabetic clinic once a month. We are part of Wandsworth PCT. Dr Kandasamy is on the PCT prescribing committee and Dr Christie is on the LMC. We are a virtually paperless practice and since 2002 have run an advanced access booking service. We have also been part of the Medicines Management National Collaborative. We are open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday and use Healthcall for out of hours. We teach medical students from St Georges Hospital Medical School Undergraduate and Graduate Entry Programmes. The TrainerLaura Quinton has been a trainer since 2004. She has been a tutor to medical students on the GEP programme from St Georges since 2000 and takes part in undergraduate medical student teaching at the practice. Dr Kandasamy is also qualified as a GP trainer. Dr Quinton has an intercalated degree in Psychology and worked in the IVF clinic of the Hammersmith Hospital for 3 years carrying out research into the psychological aspects of infertility. Her interests include this along with Child Health and Diabetes. She believes in a Holistic approach to the patient and their family. She has a variety of artistic interests outside of the practice and believes that being a successful GP involves the right mix of work and pleasure. The RegistrarOur registrar will be made to feel part of our small friendly team. They will have a year of fun and hard work with full support. He or she will have their own room, generous study time and protected teaching time. The practice is a short walk to the tube and the lively cafes and shops of Southfields. We also have the greenery of Wimbledon Park and Wimbledon Common not far away.
